Jan 5 Introduction to Encaustics

Have you always wanted to find out more about encaustic painting, but never really took the time to look very far? Well, if you like to experiment and love the smell of wax, then this could be your new medium! Sharon will show you the very basics of encaustic painting, covering the supplies, equipment and an easy way to get started.

Supplies you’ll need: At least three different surfaces to try 8 x 10 or smaller. Suggested are Ampersand’s claybord, encausticbord or a rough piece of tile. All other supplies will be provided. Sign Up Here

Join Sharon for a fun three hours of designing and making your own stamps – the easy way! You can bring some design ideas with you or just conjure them up in the class! These stamps are then used to create your own greeting cards, ATC’s or decorate papers…or all three. Let yourself go and learn to create without your inner critic making decisions for you!

Supplies you’ll need: A linoleum carving set, Artsy soft printmaking blocks, SoHo printmaking blocks or Speedball printmaking blocks – at least 2 to start with, cards, a journal or papers that you’d like to embellish.

Feb 2 Creative Collage Techniques
Location: Jerry's Artarama of Raleigh, NC

Thursday, February 2, 2012 10:00a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

This workshop is for the student that has a passion for creativity and is ready to experiment! Sharon will provide information about products, content, design, color, texture and process. This workshop is all about letting go and having a positive experience with art and expressing yourself through creating.

Supplies you'll need: Assortment of papers; rice, watercolor, tissue, decorative, Regular Gel Matte Medium – for thicker items, Matte Medium – for thinner items, Acrylic paints - your favorite colors, Assortment of brushes including a soft synthetic 1" watercolor brush, Cheap white trash bags, Scissors, Claybord, stretched canvas, gallery wrapped canvas - check your stash. Anything on the smallish side...we don't want to get crazy! – 12 x 12 or smaller. Any other "stuff" you want to add to your collage...music, maps, yarn, buttons, etc. I'll bring lots of items to share, your journal.      Sign Up Here

This workshop is very experimental. If you are a collage artist or love encaustics or a little of both or are completely new to this game of encaustic and collage – come on out and have some fun! This class is all about trying some new techniques, trying a new medium and just meeting others that have that same zest for art. We will be working with paper and panels, encaustic medium and heat guns. We will carve, transfer, dip, and layer paint while working with a variety of papers and collage items.

Bring your photos, Xerox copies, collage parts and pieces, old paintings, etc. We will make new art out of found objects and give them new life through encaustic!   Sign Up Here
