Expand your experience in Acrylic Abstracts on Canvas using the four
basic elements of abstraction, Line, Shape, Color and Texture. Joe will
give you tips and techniques for expressing yourself in a non
representational style of painting that will surely rid your inhibitions
about putting paint to canvas. Joe's will get the new artist freed up to
start expressing themselves right away and will help to expand on the “library
of experience” for the established artist to take the next step towards
artistic development, while
tapping into their inner source of creativity, allowing the intuitive you
to flourish in this two day painting free for all!.
Supplies
you’ll need: Matisse
Structure Acrylics (Matisse Australian Set Preferred), Gloss Medium and
Varnish 8oz Bottle, Matt Medium 8oz bottle, 8oz bottle of Gesso, Flow
Expression bottles, (small pack of six).
Brushes:
Ebony Splendor Short Handle Wash Brush Set ( 1”,1/2”, 1/4” Flats),
Any fan brush, Size #3 or #4 Liner, Rigger or Script Brush, at least two
canvases (36”x 36” maximum size due to space), A small pack of
5 Soho Painting panels or canvas boards (suggest 9x12) for warm-ups.

Saturday and Sunday, April 20, 21, 22, 2012 – 10am-4pm each day
In this three day workshop, join Joe as he takes you through an
array of small scale studies the first day, on to paper surfaces on the
second and full blown abstracts on canvas the final day. You explore the
textural, compositional and brush stroke techniques as they apply to small
as well as large scale acrylic aqua media abstraction. You will experiment
with the differences in working on paper as well as canvas surfaces, while
learning how to develop strong abstract compositions that contain action
and energy. Join Joe in a comprehensive study of abstraction in this three
day painting voyage in “self discover”.
Supplies
you will need: Matisse
Structure Acrylics (Matisse Australian Set Preferred), Gloss Medium and
Varnish 8oz Bottle, Matt Medium 8oz bottle, 8oz bottle of Gesso. Bring
whatever brushes you have, but have at least a 1”,1/2”, 1/4” Flat, a
#8 Round, Any fan brush, a size #3 or #4 Liner, Rigger or Script Brush, A
palette knife, a roll of 1” 3M blue painters tape., a 24” Steel ruler
and Exacta knife or utility blade, Smock , Flow Expression bottles, (small
pack of six).
Surfaces:
For day one you will want a pad
of 9”x12” 140lb Watercolor paper or canvas boards. Day two you will
want at least 3 full sheets of 140lbs Watercolor paper (22”x 30”) and
a number of canvases at least
24”x30” on the final day

Join Joe in creating large format abstractions on paper in the
spirit of Franz Kline, Richard Diebenkorn, and Willem de Kooning, as well
as, other great Abstract Expressionists. Explore large energized
abstractions that focus on composition on paper that use the four basic
elements of line, shape, color and texture. Employ acrylics, graphite,
spray paint, oil pastels and anything you could imagine in your art, while
putting “action” back into
your free form work. Learn to get over your inhibitions and create
fearlessly. The answer in this all day paint fest will always be a
resounding,” YES!”
Supplies
you’ll need: I suggest the
Matisse Australian Acrylics Set (colors- Black, Australian Sienna,
Southern Ocean Blue, Unbleached titanium, Titanium White), Any large
bristle long handle brushes, Mural # 40 Flat Nylon
Brush (varnishing), Mural # 30 Flat Bristle Brush, Mural #30
Bristle Round (painting Large Areas) , a large fan brush,
a #4 or larger rigger brush, Flow Expression bottles, (large pack
of three 100ml bottles).

Learn to openly express yourself in this weekend workshop through the use
of acrylic mixed media. American painters
such as Franz Kline, Willem de Kooning and Richard Diebenkorn are the

the Abstract Expressionist movement of the late 20th century. Joe will give you tips and
techniques for expressing yourself in a non representational style of
painting that will surely rid your inhibitions about putting paint to

Black Bag exercise will get the new artist freed up to start
expressing their self right away and will help to loosen up the
established artist to take the next step towards artistic development
while tapping into their inner source of creativity. We will work on warms
ups and basics on day one, abstract compositions on canvas on day two and
daily demos and individual critiques. Allow the intuitive you to flourish
in this weekend painting funfest!
